I almost bought a JM66B (Blocks, binding Jazz) before I found my CIJ Jag. I shouldn't look at the pics of yours, or I will get GAS again...That's a bad idea! I think my fiance would kick me out...
Nice axe!

My JM has the dots on the neck. I think this is just the way Fender Japan makes JM's. Obviously the teles are made differently.

Yeah, your neck is normal for a B&B CIJ JM. Most people aren't as picky about it
. But yeah, it looks fine from the front, doesn't it?

Times change. Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky? Now it grows hair! We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger

My '96 MIJ Jag has the side dots in the neck, not fretboard, also. I never noticed it until you mentioned it.

My 03 CIJ is like this, although one of the markers is ever so slightly slightly mis-shapen, I fucking love that neck so it doesn't bother me in the slightest.JazzBlaster wrote:+1 so does my 94 MIJ 13 years and I never noticed that....~*blissedandgone*~ wrote: My '96 MIJ Jag has the side dots in the neck, not fretboard, also. The markers are perfectly normal for a CIJ,as for the yellow binding, well you could get rid of that in half an hour with very fine sand paper.
It looks fine to me how it is and certainly doesn't affect playability so ,meh it wouldn't bother me the slightest.
These are minor details,if its historical accuracy your after then av is up your alley.

I'm not after historical accuracy, at all. This is just the first time I've ever seen a neck with binding that the dots weren't ON the binding. I had a list earlier in the thread of all the guitars I've had that were like this, I even forgot one, a Dean gold resonator. But, I'm the kind of person anyway that will find one little detail to freak out over, kind of like a pet peeve. You should see me in an emergency, I'm the coolest head of all, but, God forbid, somebody pulls in front of me without a turn signal and I fly into a RAGE!!!
Anyway, I'm keeping the neck and I even started a new thread for it. But, thank you all for showing me it's not just MY neck...

One more guitar, then I'll practice!

Here's that picture you mentioned, NoFi. I went snooping...

NoFi wrote: It sounds a bit weird to get that guitar just because of the bound neck. Did someone try contacting those Japanee shops to see if the bound neck was available with other Pu configurations or just as itself ?
At the time when i ordered my CIJ with B and B from ishibashi, it looked like they were Fender Japan themselves and could get hold of anything in 24 hours.
Anyway their binding is pretty strange...
They finish the maple of the neck after fitting the binding so they apply the finish ontop of the binding. The binding looks yellow on the side of the neck and white on the fretboard.

Why not write to the dealer and tell them this is not what you ordered. Maybe they will refund some money rather than having you return it?
Worth a try.
You see, the problem is you have the guitar in your hands and they know that it will be hard for you to return it.

They did this on purpose, probably because they didnt have what you wanted in stock, found one like it and said "Let's see if he will take this". They just want a sale and dont give a shit if you are fully happy, only partially happy. "He'll learn to love it" they said.
Up to you, but you have to be strong, because Jags and JM's are our weakness, and we love them all, flaws and all, and that is to the salesman's advantage.
Good luck and if you weaken and keep it, we understand. After all we are only human....

Yeah, but the customer got exactly what they ordered. They ordered a fender japan B&B. This is how Fender Japan does B&B. The customer just didn't know it. Nothing against Berlin... I've never held a CIJ B&B and I too would have expected white binding, and markers in the binding also.1946dodge wrote: Why not write to the dealer and tell them this is not what you ordered. If there was a no fault return policy in the deal, that would be an option, you're out shipping. But asking for money back when you get a first quality, no defect, item that is exactly what you ordered? Even if they would do it, ethically it would be wrong...

More precisely, he ordered a JM66B-106, color 3TS. That's specifically the model and color they sent him. Their emails may sound a bit terse (probably just the language barrier) but they've been accurate in that regard.blueavenger wrote: Yeah, but the customer got exactly what they ordered. There's nothing any different about his guitar than other JM66B-106's in 3TS, it seems, so there's no fault on Stringnet here. If the fault lies anywhere, it's with Fender Japan... but it's not like they're gonna do anything about it. It's a design flaw, not a defect. The guitar is as designed.
I agree. There's no reason the store should be out any money. If anything, they should accept a full-fledged return but short of that I don't see why they should be expected to give any money back.If there was a no fault return policy in the deal, that would be an option, you're out shipping.
