AVRI Jaguar volume???

Post by Daysleeper » Thu May 31, 2007 9:06 pm

My AVRI Jaguar is Quiet-er than my AVRI Jazzmaster when plugged in at the same amp volume. Is that Normal? Is it because of the differences in the pickups?

I have to crank my amp up more when I switch to my Jag. What's the deal?

I wouldn't call it normal, somethings not right if its an extreme difference.
A little difference is fine because jazzmaster pups are hotter than jags,my jag is loud as hell tho so you might want to check it out inside.

This problem,if indeed it is a problem and not the "K" pup difference, could be caused by a poor solder join or broken or semi shorting wire.
It could also be caused by dying pups but this is unlikely.

this might be a bit on topic ::) but what i have noticed about the tone control for the lead circuit is. to me it just lowers the the volume, not subtracts treble. anyone else noticed this too? hope im not hijacking the thread DS :-[

Its not meant to take away treble,it takes away bass and that enhances the treble and its only the first switch that does it,the 2 pup switches are just on/off and its a regular circuit like any other guitar.

Daysleeper, it could also be pup height differences?

Pumpkin, I think you're talking about the strangle switch, light years is talking about the lead circuit tone control .. and no, it shouldn't drop volume although I guess you might perceive it as quieter with some tone rolled off.

Yea,is to! :-[

A solution to that then is to use a .022uF or .033uF cap...even a .047uF cap (stock is .01uF).You will notice a difference then.

At any electronics store really.

Ask for a ".022 Micro farads Sprague orange drop capacitor".Any brand will do but these are good.also try .033 and .047,i feel .022 is perfect.

Ya can tell your turning the tone down and actually hear the treble fading away with these caps on a jaguar that are above .022uF so maybe try one of each until your happy.

Replacing electrics in ya cij wont do much at all and you probably wont even notice considering ya got nice pups in it.BUT getting new pots some time would be a good idea cause i don't know how reliable the Japanese ones are as i always replace cij electrics immediately.I "think" they'd last years but i have no idea really.

Just when ya have some spare money buy some CTS or ALLPARTS (is cts) pots and chuck 'em in,wont hurt none.

Ya Know I think it is the Pickup height. I noticed they looked a little low.

The volume difference is not as dramatic as I may have came off. I bet the pup height will do it.

Thanks guys!

There's a method for ascertaining pup height on Curtis' website, which might be helpful, or at least give you consistent results across more than one guitar.
Distance-crunching honcho with echo unit.

Thanks Mezcalhead! I will check that out. By the way that is an amazing Swervedriver album, great choice for a name.
