Re: Toledo (Univox UC-2)
i'd try to hammer the next couple of frets a bit more into the fretboard... check if they haven't come a bit loose.
good luck!

Re: Toledo (Univox UC-2)
problem kinda solved... the "A" note came back with a little hammering on the 6th fret... but it sounds kind of sitarish without distortion...Pacafeliz wrote:i'd try to hammer the next couple of frets a bit more into the fretboard... check if they haven't come a bit loose.

anyway, thanks for the helpful hint Pat!

ok, I got the vibrato arm and it does not fit, because it is too skinny and is really loose...anubi wrote:thank you man! I contacted the seller of that vibrato arm on ebay... he asked me about further details, and also said that '3/16" is a common diameter for vintage Japanese tremolo bars'... I just replied that thread is 10/32 and lenght just about 7-3/4"... I don't know about the '3/16" diameter', and I'm not used to inches either, we use the metric system hereantisymmetric wrote:For the arm, that one on Ebay that theworkoffice mentioned should do the trick. now what!?

Re: Toledo (Univox UC-2)
Mine has a spring inside that the arm screws down on. If you could find one, it might help. I think Strats might have them, so you may be able to find one. Other than that, maybe a bit of thread tape wrapped around the arm would help.

Re: Toledo (Univox UC-2)
Never actually seen a Toledo in the flesh,I had an Epiphone Et270 (Kurt Cobain had one on The Bleach album cover),but sold it last year, took me ages to find actually,as you dont find these kind of guitars for sale very often in England!I would love to have a go on one,but I dont think it'll ever come about.I only found the Epiphone whilst calling an advert for a Jazzmaster for sale years ago,got chatting to the guy,and he mentioned giving his son a Epiphone,I got the Epi instead of the Jazzmaster! Here is a pic of it on my photostream...

Re: Toledo (Univox UC-2)
yeah, I too thought about the tape solution, but since I can return the bar to the seller and get another one in exchange, I wouldn't want to ruin the whammy bar...antisymmetric wrote:Mine has a spring inside that the arm screws down on. anyway, is the bar on your guitar a 10/32 thread? it seems to me (but I might be wrong) that the threading in the tremolo hole is a bit ruined, so I'm not even 100% sure that a thicker threaded whammy would work...
so, got to find the right spring, I suppose...

Re: Toledo (Univox UC-2)
So, I've got one of these...actual Univox, mid 60s, with the sunburst finish which is in decent condition for its age but def not perfect.
I've been toying with the idea of having mine refinished in surf green and fabbing a new pickguard in white. What do y'all think? Awesome project idea or blasphemy?

about the color, I don't like sunburst either, anyway half the beauty of my guitar is the finish, i.e. how it has degraded over the years... you can't tell this from the pictures, anyway the color is not pure white at all, but in many places it has yellowed a lot, so the guitar really shows its age... and that's of course what we're looking for in vintage guitars...
a new finish will make the guitar look like any cheapo new squier out there, so unless you manage to make it look like it's almost 50 years old, I would not touch it... just my 0,02 anyway...

Re: Toledo (Univox UC-2)
...and I appreciate your two cents. You make some good points, all of which I've been pondering at length. I've been torn about not wanting to desecrate an antique vs. making a decent player out of a guitar just isn't living up to it's potential. I've aired my thoughts and concerns out on internet forums and all but the bottom line is: There's just no serious collector value here.
Not to mention, this thing isn't a great player. The bone nut is chipped, the tone pot is frozen in place, the pickguard is curled a tad, and the selector switch gets knocked out of the neck position whenever I strum (poor placement, IMO) To be worth anything to a player, it must play and some things need to be changed in order to achieve that. Otherwise, I'm just looking at it and it doesn't look too hot.
