Did you route it by hand, or did you make a template?
Looks great!

I made a template. It took some time to get it right. I used a scroll saw and a file to mkae it. Here is a pic...Sonichris wrote:Did you route it by hand, or did you make a template?

Re: Squier VM JazzMaster Mod
oh, cool. The guitar looks great. I think you may be the first to add a tremolo to one.
Does the guitar sound different now vs. with the stock bridge?

Yep, sure is. Jabbed myself with the file while I was working on it. If you don't bleed when doing a job like this, your not doing it right!Stratelejazzuar wrote: Is that a drop of blood?

I can't really tell a difference with the sound. It is much more comfortable for palm muting. My hands are small but it still felt cramped with the design of the stock bridge. Plus I got this guitar to play surf music, so I had to have a tremolo!Sonichris wrote:oh, cool. The guitar looks great. I think you may be the first to add a tremolo to one.

You beat me to it by about a month. I am planning this very thing with my sunburst model but need to wait until I get to my uncles workshop in my home town.

Re: Squier VM JazzMaster Mod
how deep did you have to drill the holes for the bridge?
also what do you mean by using a file to adjust the bridge?
i am very interested in doing this exact thing only with a jazzmaster pivoting bridge

I drilled the holes for the bridge the same depth they currently are. Just made them bigger.mitchellorchris wrote:how deep did you have to drill the holes for the bridge?

I used the file to make the hole in the body for the bridge post a little oval shaped since the holes were slightly to far apart. Used a shim next to the post to make it fit snugly.
I think the only thing I would have done differently is move the trem a little closer to the bridge. That would have given the strings a sharper angle over the bridge.

So I just got this in the mail:

Any idea how I'd remove the metal doohickies from the holes?

I bought the exact same body recently.
I used a metal screw which happened to have the same threading as the hole. I levered it out carefully using some plyers. make sure the body is protected by a sheet of plastic. the basswood is very soft.

A no pliers/yanking process that's relatively simple.

Yeah, just to elaborate. I used crooked needlenose plyers to lever it out. You should be able to find a screw big enough to fit the thread.
