Congrats!

MM11 = December 11, 1979

Celestion help. There's a drop down under the 'Secrets' section. Choose the 'Chassis Date Codes' option.

Well, that looks like it'll get the job done!

New amp, hey .. is that the Bassman head you've been looking for .. ?

Sure thing zhivago.

That looks parallel to me so if they are 16 ohms the cab is 4, if 8's, the cab is 2, and etc.. Here is a method for measuring any given speaker. Measuring the DC resistance across the voice coil should be plenty good enough.

Glad I could pass the good catch along. But believe me - if shipping something like that out of the UK wouldn't have cost double the price of the cab itself, it would be sitting in my flat right now!  ;)

hey guys, thanks for all the replies :)

not sure how many watts each speaker is...should it say somewhere?

I'm really crap with things like that :)

amp-wise, I've gone for a different route...some might think I've lost it, but I'm giving HH amps a try...I bought a cheap solid state PA head and wanna see how it'll work out...I use all sorts of eq pedals, so I should be able to make it do exactly what I want.

In the end getting a vintage Bassman was just too expensive when factoring in shipping, import tax, tech bills, etc, and I have so many gigs to do, I couldn't wait around for a good Bassman to come up anyway

the HH shoud be here any day now...I'll post my impressions of it....

I cannot wait to play the setup live...we did a gig last night in North London and freaked out the soundman...it was insanely loud...I was playing the Bass version of a JCM800 thorugh a 4x12..the HH should be even louder!

I dunno what it is with ddd...we keep playing at place where they let me turn up as much as I want!!?  ???

which is good :)

I'm no expert on these things but I know that there weren't that many types of Marshall 4x12" angled cabs being made in 1979. I'm guessing that it's a model 1960A, and if it has the stock speakers (which it seems to have), they'd likely be Celestion G12T-75s. Here's the spec sheet on that speaker (still made today).

The newly-made ones run in mono at  4Ω or16Ω and stereo at 8Ω, 300w (!!) max output. What does the back panel on yours look like?

http://professional.celestion.com/guita ... c.asp?ID=5

General specifications
Nominal diameter         12", 305mm
Power Rating                   75W
Nominal impedance       8Ω and 16Ω
Sensitivity                       97dB
Chassis type                   Pressed steel
Voice coil diameter         1.75", 44.5mm
Voice coil material           Round copper
Magnet type                   Ceramic
Magnet weight                 35oz, 0.99kg
Frequency range         80-5000Hz
Resonance frequency, Fs 85Hz
DC resistance, Re         6.77Ω & 12.9Ω

the back panel only has one input near the bottom of the cab, next to it it has a serial number label

So it looks like this? Is the input plug on the bottom?

sorry but what is a HH ??
Does it mean solid state ?
Anyway Jon Spencer uses a Custom solid state amp and he's known to have a lot of bass in his tone (saw the Blues Explosion live once and it's quite impressive the bass he have !  8) )

I guess it's because ddd is begining to have a strong reputation: it's not a "small beginers band" so maybe soundmens are realizing that you know what you doing... (or maybe venues give you more experienced soundmen too

yeah, but the serial number plate is not round...it's a small rectangle-shaped plate :)

H/H amps are british-made solid state amps from the 70s...mjet started a thread on them too a while back...I bought this to try through the 4x12

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1

I will probably have it verticaly on stage to the side of the cab...this way I have more room on the top of the cab for guitar-to-top-of-cab feedback grinding etc

I'm pretty particular with where things are on stage...pedals too...that's why I don't use a pedal board anymore...I like placing things in odd places :)

I'm really hoping that the soundmen give us a break for them reasons....they are usualy quite stunned when we soundcheck...most bands in London play quite standard rock, I guess...and then we come on, detuned and loud, and 20 eq pedals! :D
