Re: Definitive Who Plays Offsets List !!!!!
Just saw a snapshot of the guitar rack from a Mogwai show with a Bass VI in line, next to the (already-cited) white Jaguar.

Yes, that's a Jag Bari Custom that Alberta from Wet Confetti is playing. I actually emailed her to come join us here and talk about Jags with us, but she never did.

Re: Definitive Who Plays Offsets List !!!!!
I've read in a few places(plus someone already listed him in this thread) that Eric Clapton played a Jazzmaster in his Bluesbreakers days. Has anyone ever seen pics? I'm curious...I know he hates vibratos, so he has them blocked on all of his guitars. I wonder what he did with the JM.

Re: Definitive Who Plays Offsets List !!!!!
According to Clapton, he hated trems. This is an example of what I am talking about...
This is what I read in a Guitar World interview:
GW: "The '61 SG/Les Paul must have come with the big sideways vibrato tailpiece."
EC: "It came with the sideways tremolo on it, which I took apart, but I kept the bridge and the tailpiece. I never liked tremolos; I've never been able to stand the bloody things. Eventually I put a stop tailpiece on it."
In the same article, he talks about owning Teles and a Jazzmaster. Pretty cool!

Re: Definitive Who Plays Offsets List !!!!!
I can add a few that have not been listed, a few for sure. I'm sure mine are kinda weird as I'm a big fan of early 80's new wave, a LOT of those bands sported offsets at one time or another. Besides, a lot of this is obscure, and came from watching LOTS of VH1 when I was a young offset obsessed teenager.
THREE of The Cars used Jaguars/Jazzmasters.......
Elliot Easton used the buzzstopped (probably not then though) Fiesta Red Fender Jazzmaster on the Panorama tour circa 1980, he also picked out a right handed 60's Jaguar for Ric Ocasek around this time, who used it for some of the tour. There's some close-up footage of the Jazzy at the end of the Unlocked video with Elliot playing what looks like "Running To You" on it.
Ric Ocasek used the Jaguar on the Panorama tour, and it later was used by Rivers Cuomo and the other guitarist in Weezer on their Ric Ocasek produced albums, it's probably the same axe from the Panorama tour, sans the mute. There's a photo of Ric playing this instrument on his myspace page.
And Benjamin Orr used one before The Cars in a band called the Grasshoppers whilst in Cleavlend. Someone posted up a picture in another forum I visited quite awhile back.
I looked through the lists (okay, SKIMMED the lists), and noticed Pal Waaktaar-Savoy of A-ha was not in the lists. He apparently started using that guitar on the Analogue album circa 2005, it's quite audibly a Jazzmaster on the song Analogue(All I Want).
Chris Butler of The Waitresses used a Jazzmaster, there's a video of "Go Make The Weather" on Youtube with him playing one, and considering the guitar, I would not doubt that's a Jazzmaster on the music in the video.

Andy Cox of Fine Young Cannibals was pretty much a Mustang player most of the time. I think the only other guitar I have seen in that band was a Gibson Explorer style guitar which only appeared in the "She Drive's Me Crazy" video.

I could'nt find the name of the dude, but one of the two guitarists in The Mutants uses a Jaguar modified with a bridge position humbucker. It's seen for a split few seconds in this video....Perfect Target.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vZe1Mu6e2A
I also saw a late 70's photograph of Todd Rundgren using a Mustang modified to the hilt, and have read that he used Fender Jazzmasters on at least one project of his.
So my tally thus far is......
Jazzmaster
The Cars (Ric Ocasek, Elliot Easton)
The Grasshoppers (Benjamin Orr)
The Waitresses (Chris Butler)
Todd Rundgren
Jaguar
The Cars (Ric Ocasek)
The Mutants
Mustang
Andy Cox (Fine Young Cannibals)

Jack Black

Red Jaguar w/ matching headstock, swapped pickups, and looks like a three way switch.

I saw some of the Live Earth concert (absolute joke) and all the Japanese bands I saw on the Tokyo stage had at least 1 or 2 JMs in the lineup. They love them over there.

It was a joke. The opening number with Keith Urban and Alicia Keys was enough to make me change the channel!spacewhale wrote: I saw some of the Live Earth concert (absolute joke) and all the Japanese bands I saw on the Tokyo stage had at least 1 or 2 JMs in the lineup. They love them over there.
