Guitar Engineering Ltd. JM Bodies

Post by UlricvonCatalyst » Tue Jul 05, 2011 11:53 pm

Does anyone here have first-hand experience of the Jazzmaster bodies offered by this company?

I came across their site by chance and it set my mind racing. I currently have a CIJ JM which is almost stock (don't have the original bridge, but I have a Mustang one I could drop in there) plus a whole load of new hardware I bought to basically upgrade it to AVRI spec (minus the brass tubs). I'm embarrassed to say I still haven't put it all together yet - I've been waiting for my friend to help me with the rather complex wiring job.

Now I'm thinking that if I put the CIJ back together and sold it I could raise enough to have a nice new body with nitro finish and a B&B neck that I could use with my new hardware. So....if anyone has any experience with this company I'd like to hear about their experience of the fit, finish and quality control.

Specifically, can anyone vouch for the quality of their sunburst finishes AND will brass shielding tubs drop right in without any problems?

Looks like they copied Warmoths JM bodies (the wire channel).

I just saw this on their site:

a TOM/JM bridge hybrid - almost like the ones Jonas made himself.

:)
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

Didn't even notice the wire channel. :fp: Not a deal-breaker though - what goes on under the guard stays under the guard....

If they copied Warmoth (or retail their bodies) there are also issues with fitting other parts than Warmoth on them, such as pickup spacing, distance to neckpocket etc. At least that's what Warmoth states on their site.

Yeah, it did occur to me they might just be a 'middle-man' kind of operation. The price does seem too good to be true....and if something looks too good to be true it quite often is.

It'd be great to hear from somebody who has one, though.

There was this thread on UKGB forum and some-things don't seem that great about that site.

From that topic http://simnettguitars.co.uk/forum/index ... pic=2356.0, they are apparently the same guys that were behind Arranz guitars : KEEP AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY if that's the case.
I bought a finished Jazzmaster body from Arranz Guitars almost one year and half ago, never received it and never get a refund of my money...

Yeah, I scoured that thread and came to the conclusion that they were best avoided. A real shame, but....you get what you pay for....and in the worst cases you don't even get that.

They're based in the UK; won't be any good for me, the shipping to Canada would be astronomical. I'll stick with Warmoth... and thanks for the heads-up!

Hi everyone.
Just registered to add my experience of the above named store.
WHAT EVER YOU DO, NEVER HAVE ANY DEALINGS OF ANY KIND WITH THIS GUY. TO PUT IT SHORTLY; HE IS INSANE. NO DELIVERY, NO REFUNDS. JUST A RUNAROUND WITH BS LIKE "YOUR ORDER IS ON THE WAY", "THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR REFUND AND CREDITCARD, SEND INFO ABOUT YOUR BANK FOR A BANK TRANSFER", AND SO ON. STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!!!!
