Re: My VI arrived!! (+warning)
Gorgeous. Really. I'm not much of a burst fan, but that one is just awesome. That's some of the finest quartersawn maple I have ever seen.

I used to think sunburst was rather boring, so I was really keeping my fingers crossed when I ordered the VI. Glad it helped

scottme, I ordered it around mid December last year and got it in May. Are you thinking of ordering one too?

+1 on the sunburst - they really nailed that early 60-s vibe, which is not easy to do, judging from all the botched attempts over on the ReRanch baord. How does it sound? How's the action, neck profile, etc? Congrats,

Thanks!jetset wrote: Congrats,
I'm not very good at describing a sound, but to me it sounds a lot more versatile than I expected. It's very easy to get a surfy kind of lead guitar, or Robert Smith's sign. solo sound. But now I mainly play it to get a kinda dark and mysterious guitar during my band rehearsals. That works out really great! Once in a while I also play 'regular' bass with it. For that purpose, it has a very good low end, but I kinda miss a little character in the mid-low section when playing the E and A strings. I probably should try some more EQ experimenting.
Right now the action is just about perfect for me - nice and low. It did require a lot of tweeking though. When I just got the VI, I thought the setup was pretty okay. But after a while I was growing increasingly unsatisfied with it: the action was too high and I couldn't get the B string fine-tuned properly, because the saddle screw was at its maximum. But now, with a big neck shim (more at this topic: index.php?topic=4603 ) and the bridge fairly set up high, all this has been solved.
I'm not sure what neck profile is, but I can say the neck feels very compartable to me. Quite narrow at the nut end. I don't really notice the neck while playing, and I guess that's a good thing

Sounds like I wrote a mini review here... Oh well, I'm just very happy with my VI and can't stop talking about it. My girlfriend won't listen anymore, so now I'm trying this board

I ordered mine in March, so it should turn up in 2 months. It should be sprayed in Burgandy Mist, and I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on it. I'm really lliking my 63 VI and very keen to put them up against each other.
