Re: Another Suggest-an-Amp Thread
They just have a sound... I don't know, I just like them better than 6L6s or 6V6s or anything else. I mean, they don't stay clean very long, but when they do, they sound fantastic and when they don't they sound even better. Those Ampegs sound like a good idea, think I could get one for under $800, which is about what I'm looking at for a THD UniValve and 1x15" cab.

My 112 Reverberocket was 400, and I know a guy that got the same amp for 200.
I dunno about this tremolo people keep mentioning, mine doesn't have it, but I just use the voodoo lab pedal for that.

Re: Another Suggest-an-Amp Thread
Music Man made a few amps that used EL34s/6CA7s and they can generally be found for not a hell of a lot secondhand. Later ones have solid state pre-amps, but earlier models used a 12AX7 in the PI stage. The ss/tube combo might actually be pretty well-suited to a Bass VI; tight, but warm.

Re: Another Suggest-an-Amp Thread
FWIW I always hated the way these amps sounded. Very harsh for anything that wasn't purely clean. Even then they had a very compressed sound if I remember correctly. I played with a couple people that were trying to use them but and never sounded good. Granted this was with standard guitar and not VI however.

Jay, I've never played through one, but I did see the Red House Painters using them. They sounded great to me, but were definitely on the glassy/clean side.
