Re: New j. Mascis 2011???
I tried to search this topic (and the rest of the forum) for the answer to this and couldnt find it and 87 pages immediately makes me think TL;DR so here we go...
Does anyone know the vol + tone pots and tone cap values for the squier j mascis, and also for a stock 94 MIJ JM. I'm fixing up the 94 and i picked up a set of the squier pickups and a pickguard and wanted to make sure I updated the electronics to match if necessary, so i could go ahead and get them coming in the mail as well.

I was kind of shocked to see that the one I returned a few weeks ago is still hanging on the wall at Skip's Music in Sacramento.

As a complete newbie to "all things Jazzmaster": I played the Fender Mascis and the vibrato bar fell out quite often. Is this the same thing with the Squier version?
Thanks!
Thanks!

You have to press it down into the hole quite firmly. Then you will hear/feel it click into place. No more falling out!infinity_times_nil wrote:As a complete newbie to "all things Jazzmaster": I played the Fender Mascis and the vibrato bar fell out quite often. Re: New j. Mascis 2011???
used the j mascis squier jazzmaster at last nights jam/practise, definitley gonna change pick ups to set of lollars when i get the cash, the squire p90's have a higher output and bass than the lollars on my CIJ jazzmaster, probably change the machinehaeds aswell for a bit more tuning stability. bought the mascis as back up for my CIJ, i stupidly sold my MIJ BB jazzmaster.
a couple vids of the practise/jam with the mascis jazzmaster, not the best perfomance but anyhow:

I want one, but IMHO the pickguard is a bit of a kick in the eye...
looking for a different pickguard, which ones will fit? AVRI 62'? classic player?
I think the only way for me is to get the pickguard from ebay, so it's very important to know which one will fit...

Re: New j. Mascis 2011???
Okay second post-mortem.
I gave to say that the pickips have really grown on me, I am able to get the tone I want by rolling rhe volume down to three and keeping the tone at ten. I think I'll keep the pups after all, maybe down the line I will buy some to experiment with sound, but as of now I'm happy with what I've got.
Also I will note that while I enjoy the look of the goldguard, the look of tortiseshell on white is starting to grow on me. Though what I would like better is a black body with the goldguard on it, reminds me of a LP custom.

Check out the Planet Waves straps, readily available at the online-shop of your choice. They should get you close.

Re: New j. Mascis 2011???
OK, I FINALLY put my hands on one of these, though very briefly. My friend Jay Satellite played a show with my band last night and he played his Squier Mascismaster for about 1/3 of the set. It definitely sounded like a Jazzmaster in the center position. I played it for about five minutes before our sets and I'm amazed at how light it feels, how smooth the neck feels, how well it played (he hasn't had it set up yet...it was quite nice right out of the box!) and it has sealed things for me. At some point I will definitely buy one of these. Played better than either the Classic Player or Blacktop I've owned. That said, I will change out the pickguard. It looks more like butterscotch than gold to me. Here's Jay playing his last night. You can see my mint on white 94 MIJ across the room.
