I'd imagine it to be very similar to this one, which looks like the PB version of my JB. Come on, that looks GOOD (OK, there are no traces of domestic violence on this one, but still...)

my guard definitely isn't as nice as that one, i wish it was...

i'll start with getting a gold guard, and take it from there.

Bite marks? I bet that was a gig to remember!

I put a RI Fender gold guard on my '72 P bass .. I don't know if you recall that one, it has its original sunburst poly finish but has been routed for a battery in the back for an active pickup (now replaced with a passive pup). It looks better than I hoped, and certainly way better than the homemade white pickguard that was on there previously. I like the look enough that I've shelved (for now) my previous idea of filling the routing holes and refinishing the whole thing in black or vintage white.

I guess yours would look similar with a gold guard?

IMO the sunburst and guard on mine look kinda cheap. not by far as nice as either of the previously posted basses. here it is:

and here's a closeup of the bite marks and bottle cap ding:

ok maybe not horrible, but it's not exactly stunning, you know?

the bite marks were created by the previous owner, one of my best friends. he was pretty wasted and i guess he got the munchies... the bottle cap mark is more of a mystery. i think it already had it when he bought it.

useless trivia for all you swedes out there: my friend was given the bass by Conny Bloom, lead singer of The Electric Boys, remember them? ;D
they are apparently related somehow.

Your bass, your choice. I don't think resell value should be an issue. Whatever makes you happy, Jonas.

I think it just needs a new guard. I would go gold or maybe black.
Why should we buy postage stamps? We can make our own.
