You can't go wrong with a Mastery IMO. Extremely satisfied with the ones I have. This Staytrem bridge looks very nice, though!twanglish wrote:Ha, I feel the same way reading this. I haven't tried , but check this thread, and send the Staytrem guys an email!SneakyT wrote:I know I've been Bass VI crazy lately. Some may be getting tired of it but I wonder if this bridge would intonate on a Bass VI since it has no springs to get in the way. The string spacing might be too narrow for that though. Anyone tried this yet?

Re: Staytrem vs. Mastery or Mastery vs. Staytrem
I've tried both. I've had the Staytrem about a month now. My opinion, it's all the pros of a bridge and none of the cons. Everything originally stated is true. If they made a Mastery that floated I'd consider trying another (maybe). The Staytrem will STAY on my Jag!

Re: Staytrem vs. Mastery or Mastery vs. Staytrem
Nobody has any problems with the tighter string spacing on the Staytrem? I've got huge hands and am a little worried about that. On the other hand, my high E is a little too close to the edge of the fretboard unless I route it over the grub screw on my stock bridge, which kills sustain. So I'm just trying to make sure the benefits of 52mm outweigh the potential drawbacks.
I never had a problem with my stock CIJ bridge other than a little buzz that was easily gotten rid of, but my AVRI bridge has made me realize why people often change out these things to something else. I've had nothing but problems with it in the month I've had it. I do like that the Staytrem looks more vintagey than the Mastery.

Re: Staytrem vs. Mastery or Mastery vs. Staytrem
I'd be interested in this too. I have long fingers and like a bit of space, but I'm looking at the Staytrem to replace the bridge on my vintage jag. I'm trying to get it set up without it, but the old, worn parts just don't seem to want to cooperate with a lot buzzing.spacecadet wrote:Nobody has any problems with the tighter string spacing on the Staytrem? I have no issues with the tighter spacing; prefer it on the shorter scale even. Cosmetically I wish someone would make one of these great aftermarket upgrades in the same overall finish as the originals. All these matte finishes floating around on top of all the nice chrome!

Re: Staytrem vs. Mastery or Mastery vs. Staytrem
Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Mastery also have 52mm string spacing? I've seen it mentioned that somehow this is unique to the Staytrem, but I'm sure it ain't. All my TOM bridges are 52mm as well, so it's something I'm very comfortable with. And I also have HUGE handsspacecadet wrote:Nobody has any problems with the tighter string spacing on the Staytrem? Re: Staytrem vs. Mastery or Mastery vs. Staytrem
It's entirely possible that the CIJ's assume a 52mm spacing as well and that's what I'm actually used to, because the high E isn't as close to the fretboard edge and the saddles are a little narrower. Initially when I got my AVRI, I had it set up so that the strings looked like my CIJ on the fretboard and that meant having both the high and low E way over on the inside of the saddles. With the strings over the middle of the saddles (which I have now so the strings don't ping out from resting over the grub screws), high E keeps rolling off the fretboard when I fret it.HorseyBoy wrote:Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Mastery also have 52mm string spacing? Does anyone know if the CIJ's use 52mm spacing by default, if you string up in the middle of the saddles? If so then this concern goes away for me.

Re: Staytrem vs. Mastery or Mastery vs. Staytrem
I would say yes. I just replaced a Japanese Mustang bridge on my CIJ JM with a Staytrem. The 52mm spacing seems to match with the spacing at the nut, meaning that the distance from the edge of the fretboard to the string is consistent down the entire length of the neck.spacecadet wrote: Does anyone know if the CIJ's use 52mm spacing by default, if you string up in the middle of the saddles? Re: Staytrem vs. Mastery or Mastery vs. Staytrem
i spent a few hours setting up my Mastery, last night. It was rattling worse than Mr. T's jewelry at an '80s mall photo-shoot.
I couldn't take it any longer.
I inserted a bit of tape in to the thimbles to snug things up in there...
removed every saddle screw (they'd started working their way out again, lately) and put plumbers tape on all of them...
lowered the bridge a bit, raised the saddles...
paid extra attention to getting everything just so, and nice and snug...
even went so far as to put a wee square of electrical tape between the two saddles, to remove possible contact there...
strung it back up, tuned...
Intonate (not the easiest)...
and
ITSTILLFUCKINGRATTLES
Pretty sure it's the little tension springs.
I'm no perfectionist (by ANY stretch), but I'm pretty much done. I've been side-eying it for weeks; dreading arrival at this point.
Sure I could spend more time, effort and money to replace those screws with newer, stiffer springs - but I'll still end up with an overpriced, modified bridge that has heavy-duty springs, tape, glue, snot and god knows whatever the hell else getting it to work.
I'll give it one last go, but if I had to make a prediction; it's me switching back to my AVRI bridge (with mustang saddles) and calling it a day.

my vm jag with a blacktop bridge (~$30) without any gunk/etc on it works nice.

I recently impulse bought an AVRI Jag, and I'm surprised at just how satisfied I am with a Mustang bridge. The only (intermittent) rattle I have now seems to be caused by the mute against the bridge posts touching lightly, I think I need to relieve the two holes in the mute slightly...

That's actually a great idea. Thanks, Andy.andy_tchp wrote:....mine (2) now have clear heatshrink tubing on them, which is basically invisible...
I'm not going to work too hard at it, but if some clear heatshrink happens to fall in my lap and on to the bridge springs; I'll give it a shot before packing it in.
I'm not crazy though, right? All this extra crap does seem to negate most of the supposed pros, in favour of the Mastery over others, no...?

Of all the problems in the world to be having... this is a pretty good one. I should go back to caring less, I think.
Maybe I'm just extra bitchy these days...
