I see exactly what you're saying. Hmmm... That's interesting.

And not to take over this thread (please continue your regularly scheduled conversation), but just to show exactly what I'm talking about on my own guitars:
CIJ:
AVRI:
It's not like there's something *wrong* with the AVRI, it's just got a high E closer to the edge than I like, whereas the low E is actually a little further in than on the CIJ. But it's not so dramatic that I think the guitar was actually made wrong, it's just a variance. I tried just setting the high E one slot further in, but then it pings and dies when I play it (even though it's clear of all screws - I did check that). That's why I'm thinking the bridge is at least part of the problem.

From all the examples you've found I'm not sure if it's even really "variance" as much as by design.
Here's my Jag with Staytrem and Jazzmaster with Mustang reissue bridge. I had to adjust my neck a bit to get the high e off the edge.
You could always move the strings in on your JM bridge to mimic the spacing of the Staytrem to see if you like/can handle it.

Just ordered a staytrem for my CIJ - I have one (well, the stock bridge) on my Marr and it works great - easy to intonate, rock solid tuning (even with heavy use of the trem) - just great. Their idea to stick bushings on the end of the bridge posts (and to use bigger screws) seems so obvious in retrospect ... like all great designs.
I've a mastery on my '65 - which has certainly increased sustain (as advertised I guess) and there's no doubt that a lot of thought has gone into the design and manufacture of it ... but I can't say that it offers huge improvements over the staytrem (which works out cheaper for those of us based in Europe). I'm happy to leave the mastery on here - but I think in future if I'm going to replace bridges I'll be going the staytrem route.
On the string spacing issue, I haven't even noticed the strings being further in on the high/low E sides with the staytrem - I did have some issues getting the spacing where I wanted it to be on the stock '65 bridge (the thread seemed to be in the space where I wanted the string to be for some reason!), but the Mastery spacing is perfect. Same with the Marr - no issues with strings rolling off the edges of the fingerboards. The only guitar I've ever come across where the string spacing was too tight is my Rickenbacker, which has a very narrow nut.

Staytrem arrived today. It feels really solid. I'm anxious to give it a try.
Question is:
Remove Mastery from Jazzmaster and try it now...
or
Wait for new Jag to arrive

Wait a second...
Did you have to fuss around with your Staytrem bridge to get it to work with the mute on your jag?!
(please say no... please say no...)

Yes. I think as per the Johnny Marr jag, they made the posts thicker on them, and therefore Jag mutes require some drilling.
No personal experience with this, but I believe that's the case.

Me too as I'm just going out the door to sell some gear to possibly buy one.
According to forumite HP Hovercraft though:
It's slightly different to the one that Staytrem made for the Marr, although it does have the thicker posts and bushings.
Sidenote: a mute will not fit on these without drilling.

I have been thinking of the staytrem but my neck has a 12" radius. I wonder if the 9.5 radius would feel off?

We might be in luck!
I don't have precise callipers to measure, but the posts on mine look to be the same size as my AVRI bridge
Maybe they changed them slightly?
