Yes you can ;)

I've done it to a few Jaguars.

It's just a lot easier and more practical to use a 4 way blade switch rather than the three toggle switches.

I agree with you there, but if for purely aesthetic reasons you "need" to use the switches it's still a sound available to you... plus it eliminates any of the "off" positions while keeping everything else available to you.

Agreed but it doesn't have the extra filter that the Marr Jag has and you still have the top controls which are redundant to most players.

I was lucky to see JM for the 2nd time in a year last night.

His band really are getting on form now. They sound like a full band and not just JM featuring some other guys.

Really tight drumming and bass work with JM's signature melody dancing over the top of it all. Nothing flashy, just JM and that amazing rhythm work.

His green Jag looked the best of the bunch IMO.

For a man in his 50s, he is doing incredibly well. There were teenagers there who have clearly got into JM through The Smiths and probably his last few catchy tunes, and they clearly really look up to him as a musician and artist.

Then we had the older crowd, people my parents age, absolutely loving it.

The Smiths songs sounded huge.

I should have my green Jag by Friday.

I saw Johnny on Monday in Hlasgow and I agree with you Musicman20, the band are excellent. I cant say I was too ecstatic about travelling to Glasgow on a cold, wet, windy Mondy night but boy was it worth it. I'd have travelled to newcastle for last nights gig had I not been working. Really brilliant, great to hear the new songs live.. They sounded huge!

Well then, happy birthday Mr. Marr !!!

To celebrate I just finished trying out a Sherwood Green Marr Jag at a local shop. Loved the neck and the pickups were superb. Color was unique unlike any other I've seen. Very good guitar. Would love to bring it home. Played it through one of those 68ri Princeton Reverbs. Was a splendid time.

Here's to another 51, or thereabouts ;D

Well, I love Johnny Marr but my guitar is going back.

I think its case of Fender have rushed the production.

Paint probably wasn't cured. There are imperfections in the paint (a bubble and a gap near the neck joint), really bad marking on the back that is in the paint now, so it is just dull, looks like the case has marked it if they put it in when it wasn't finished. I've had this on a Jazz bass before where the final coat wasn't cured and it basically took the case pattern into the paint and it set.

The pick guard isn't cut right around the pickup switch or near the truss rod adjustment, and looks very tight like its been forced on. The control panel with the vol tone has a dip in the chrome....just very messy.

The paint is the worst thing. It looks bad on them to let these out. The paint is obviously the proper old nitro and I was concerned of reports that it is super thin, but I didn't expect it to turn up with so many marks and imperfections. It's really hard to catch on photos but the back of the guitar is not great...in the light you can see where its rested on the velvet of the case and its embedded the pattern into the paint. It hasn't happened on the front as the front doesn't sit against it like that.

The case is lovely, but the guitar is a let down. I know they aren't all like this. It does also weigh a ridiculous amount for a guitar, and I'm used to bass.

There are other small things that let it down...just QC wise, so it will be going back. What a shame. :(

I have to say Musicman20 your post has me very surprised, you've dedinitely been unlucky with this one.

I've had two high end fenders in the last fortnight, the sherwood marr and the firemist silver 65 Jazzmaster and both of them are two of the best finished guitars I have had. The nitro is perfect, the metallic finishes outstanding, and there's no orange peel etc on either of them. They 'feel' quite thin, but I'm hoping these won't end up the same way as my Olympic white marr did with a couple of flakes coming off.

I'm not saying you're a liar or anything of the sort, you've definitely been unlucky. It's outrageous that yours got out the door the way it did in the first place. I hope this doesn't put you off getting another one, as when you get a good one they are outstanding.

I did get kinda lucky on recent Fenders. My 60th Comm Strat is beautiful as is my MIJ Thinline Jag but they are both finished much better than the Marr. I'm actually still gutted thinking about it now.

I've got an American Vintage Thinline Tele which is nitro, an older guitar, and the finish is really really nice.

Store is taking it back but think it may just be the way some if these are. I'm really shocked at paint shrinking near the neck pocket and the back of it being covered in swirls and case padding marks. I've gently tried to rub them off but not a chance of it.

The JM can't be picked up until Fri or Monday and I'm not sure whether to try another. I was more excited about this guitar than I normally am, basically like a kid at Christmas getting an N64.

To find such issues makes me wonder whether I should just get a Road Worn or Classic Lacquer Jaguar and save some cash.

Hmmmm

Well I'm very suprised to hear about this bad experience. The finish on my Sherwood Green is perfect, no imperfections, the fingerboard is dark, pick guard fits right, no issues at all other than it just needed a truss rod tweak which is to be expected after landing in another climate. Sounds to me like a one off as I've not seen any new Fenders with the finish imperfections you mention.

I couldn't find any finish imperfections in my recently acquired Sherwood Green Johnny Marr. I'm sure it will get dinged but for now it's pristine.

Playing wise too it came to me pretty much set-up. I needed to make a couple of tweaks but I've had to do much more with other guitars.

Otherwise I'm really loving it. The sound palette is more varied than I'd imagined and the tremolo is really user friendly staying put as it does.
