For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

Mr. Peabody wrote: Why are Charvels from this time particularly desirable?
1. Because they smoke anything Fender was putting out at the time

2. Because Eddie VH used them in the early days

I find it interesting that even in the 70's Eddie chose to use aftermarket parts rather than butcher a Fender

Wayne hasn't replied to me (nor his son Michael)...  I don't know if they ever will.

Part of me wants to hang on to it but I'm not interested in having a typical 3-single coil Strat guitar.  If it had a humbucker rout in the bridge I'd be tempted to use it.  Like I mentioned in the beginning, it needs some minor repair in the bridge mounting screw holes.  I don't know, I think I'm going to just sit on it for a while...  I'll figure it out after I get back from tour.  Who knows, maybe I'll find a matching neck on tour!  :D

You could always use like a JB Jr. and not route it. Probably a smart move hanging onto it. sell it when you need cash for something else or find a neck for it.

They're tough to get a hold of, I just spoke with Mike yesterday after 2 weeks of phone tag - small shop, and they got a lot of business from NAMM and the Arlington Guitar Show...

Again, I'd sell it and use the proceeds to buy a body you really want (as well as a neck, pickguard, pickups...) or bank it, unless you consider yourself a big vintage Charvel fan...and it really doesn't sound like the latter!

You could always put single coil sized humbuckers in it.  I put some Kent Armstrong single coil sized humbuckers in my strat and it sounds great.  No routes required.

Okay, that's what I figured...  thanks!  I'm a huge GUITAR fan in general.  Check out the band I'm playing in now, and you'll see why I'd consider keeping it  ;)

Just for the record, I am NOT a fan of Single Coil sized humbuckers.  I think they sound pretty terrible....  unless, you take a strat-sized P-90 pickup and wire it parallel with a dummy coil.

That's cool it was just a suggestion to get around routing the guitar.  I am pretty happy with my Single Coil sized humbuckers in my strat but I guess they're not for everyone.

I wouldn't rout it - routing might just decrease it's value.
I'd personally build myself a nice, beat up strat out of it, maybe just with neck & bridge PU, but seeing things from your point, it's better if you just sell it. EVH-Maniacs might give you a lot for that.

That's just my experience....  sorry if I sounded harsh, not my intention!  :)  What do you use?    I've used the Duncan '59 Jr's and the Hotrails.  I find them to be really dark sounding and I was suprised that they recommend using 250k pots with them.  Even with 500k pots I found them to be too dark.  It all depends on what effects & amps you run it through I guess.

Whoa, that's off the hook - my buddy Scott up in S.F. turned me onto you guys 6 months ago!  Reason being, I had a gig in college (20 years ago!) that was similar called Hard-N-Moist.  Our "hit"?  "Welcome to the Jungle...Gym"  :D  He's in the booking biz, so if you're looking to hit San Fran, he can probably help!

As for "metal" guitars, the reason I was talking to Mike Charvel was to get a solid brass vintage trem with humbucker spacing for this one I'm building...they're IMPOSSIBLE to find, except from him...

There is no guitar more metal...ok, well, maybe this one I bought last week...

I have an illness, and I'm not yet seeking therapy...now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

oh wow, that's crazy!  I just joined the band about a month & a half ago, after someone left.

Funny, I was gonna buy one of those bridges from him, too!  Callaham has a limited edition vintage trem w/ humbucker spacing that I bought... but I replaced the high E string saddle with a Brass one ala Eric Johnson.

I use Kent Armstrong (hot) single coil sized humbuckers in my squire strat.  They have decent note definition when used with a lot of gain.  But they are closer to a mini humbucker sound.
