Sometimes there's a reason why things have never been done...wardpike wrote:Can you carve a contour around the forearm relief part of the body that mimics the headstock contour groove? But put the green in the headstock contour and have plain wood in the body contour? Because that would be THE TITS!! And it's never been done, AFAIK.
LOL.
D'you know what? I clean forgot to do it. I did it on the JM neck just with a triangular needle file with a square tip (ie. not pointy), but then when I did this one I didn't remember until I was most of the way through. With the glue lubricating the slots there was no issue getting them to sit nicely for the press, which is usually what reminds me to do it. I figure the chances of me ever having to re-fret this neck are pretty slim, so I guess it's not really an issue.stereordinary wrote:Hey Ben, how did you bevel the fret slot edges before you pressed the frets in? I went back and looked, but couldn't see anywhere that you discussed this.

You are really stepping up each new project, Ben. Very impressive.
I've Been looking at one of those fret end bevel files on stewmac, but making your own is much cooler (I'm not sure I'm that skilled...). Also that tang nipper is interesting. Pretty expensive though.

BTW - I copied your block marker jig today...![]()
Oh - that would be really cool if you could - I'll gladly pay you for the trouble! Of course I can wait.If you can wait until I'm done with the spraying I'll make you one of those files - honestly, it only took ten minutes and the cost of the file itself is negligible.
