it brings the question what is more important, the song or what gear it was played on?
It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.

I'll try that 12AY7 mod, I always wanted more headroom from my deluxe!

+1, I'm just curious of how the distorted channel will turn out..

Hey David, no changing of the bias is needed, right? I only have to swap the tube?

Me too - I use the drive channel quite a lot, but if the gain drops I can just use a distortion pedal :)

For me the stock drive channel is a bit too harsh, so I'm curious to see if I can start using it again..I've some plans to rehouse the switch if it works.. :)

Yeah, i found the Hot Rod drive to be too harsh, but I have the Blues deluxe and I like the drive on it a lot more :)

You shouldn't have to rebias. If you want to tame the chanel a little bit then try different tubes in V2, this will also effect the clean. Here are the 7025 tubes you can use and thier outputs.
Tube Gain

12AX7 = 100

5751 = 70

12AT7 = 60

12AZ7 = 60

6072/12AY7 = 44

5965/12AV7 = 27

12AU7/6189/5814 = 20

The great thing is these amps are hot roded so mutch, stepping it down is easier than stepping up as far as gain goes.

I have a 90's Blues Deville (60W 4x10), and get many complaints onstage concerning the volume. Do you huys think the 12AY7 swap would help me? I don't really get any break-up from the Blues, i mainly use a Tubescreamer for that. But, however, I do not want it to flatten out my drive channel too much. Maybe 5751s? Thanks...

The AY7 is a big jump down, you may want to buy a couple of different tubes and find the one you like. I also just use pedals so I need a cleaner sound 5751 are a little hard to come buy but most preamp tubes are about $10 if you buy sovteks. I myself am just experimenting with different tubes. I also plan on using the Fender GT red 6L6 duet for power tubes as they have a cleaner sound.

Re: My new old Deville (finding more headroom in the hotrod)

The newer amps also come with color coded tubes http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=211212

They do this so you can get the same spec tubes and not have to bias your amp when changing tubes. The red are the cleanest, the white are middle of the road, while the blue will break up early.
