I'm not sure how I feel about this thing...

Are you doing a bridge and tailpiece or a one piece duo-sonic style? I can't tell from these mock-ups

I actually like it, the chrome is just ridiculous, but in a cool way, thus the facepalm.

I'm glad somebody gets it. It's gonna be a great player and sound great too, we're gonna see to that.

It's gonna look awesome. Are you gonna hide something under the cover? :shifty:

I'm considering at least painting silver pinstripes on that section of the body to simulate the 5 bass strings of the original. I also thought about finding a way to MOUNT 5 bass strings (several inches of them, at least) between the chrome covers- I'm just afraid that night be a bit "too much."

There probably are a lot of weird and wonderful things I could hide under there too ("not a lot of people realize this, but you can put your weed in there..."); I'm open to suggestions? Just remember that I'm using a Toronado bridge, so it can't be anything to do with the strings themselves.

I have to admit that I'm super-psyched about this build. Even more so now that I've seen that mock-up photoshop image.

I'm buying wood tomorrow. Possibly getting the body started too ;)

Steeeeve, check yer PM's tomorrow in case I need to run some things by you (actually I'll need to talk to you about your preference for the body thickness. Depending on the wood I can find, there are a lot of different options that may come up. Bah, I'll PM you.)

I bought wood for this thing today. I went with poplar. This piece was ALMOST wide enough to do a one-piece body, but it is very clear and has a pretty uniform grain.

I also found some maple I am about to use for my longer Jaguar conversion neck :)

I laid out some of the parts on the will-be blank...

And I got a package containing the rest of the parts. The neck is AMAZING! beautiful checking and yellowing all over it... Very very thin fretboard. I'm inspired by it. But the heel is almost 1/4" wider than a standard fender heel, so I will REALLY need to make a new template for the neck pocket (I was planning on using a tele neck pocket then gluing in a curved piece of wood to fill the void in the neck's crescent heel, since the diameter on my router bit is bigger than the points on the corners of the heel)

Glueing things up today, then getting started making sawdust on Wednesday.

I don't know if he mentioned the color choice on this thread yet, but it's gonna be so eye-catching that I am about to build my next guitar in the same scheme...

Hey look everybody: Andrew HAS WOOD! :P

The color is top-secret!

Funny trivia bit: my 11-year old daughter may well have a future in espionage. She actually traced that paper template from an actual BASS V in a rehearsal booth at Chicago Music Exchange while I distracted the salesmen. True story! ;)
