It's pretty cheap, and looks to be a good budget JM. I'll buy one of these, very soon.. (2 color sunburst, here I come..)
The good point is that the wood is alder, not agathis, like in the Tele Deluxe things they released years ago.
That JM is pure awesome!

:derp: Dunno man, mine sounds pretty damn good. As do the P-90 versions that I've played.

In fact, I have to admit that these guitars plays well (a old friend of mine had the P90 version), but, agathis really repulse me. I think these guitars would be awesome with an alder or ash body, because the agathis give them a "cheap" vibe, even if it's pretty nice to play..

And counteracting my point, I am excited that they're using alder for these. It'll be my first alder guitar.

Pros:
The price
alder body
price
maple neck, something positively different
jm? single coils
the price, too

Cons:
strat parts
danelectro!!?? bridge http://www.thomann.de/pt/danelectro_dan ... ngreen.htm
dumb cocentric knobs (1 tone 1 volume is enough, and cheaper)
selector switch in the bass bout (one cool feature os the jazzmaster, for me, is the switch's position)
the cresting wave with squier on it seems stupid (they should have done the blacktop logo)

I thing fender is cannibalizing itself and I'm going to start a thread on this

im not happy about a few things on these.
1) i dont mind not having a trem but i at least want THROUGH BODY STRINGING
2) not a big fan of concentric knobs
3) more basic colours. like black or white. maybe a tort pickgaurd
living is wonderful

I don't have a problem with the strat jack. Not at all.
I think it helps remove the bare look that the missing vibrato gives it.
Yup.
It totally reminds me of the tavares prototype.

I'll be picking up a BSB Jazzmaster myself and doing the following:

Remove the stacked knobs/pots and wiring it for 1 volume and 1 tone

Off white pickup covers and knobs.

I think these will be nice guitars.....

Wonder how a half Tele bridge would work on this or a Strat hardtail ?

9.5" radius? :( But really, I like it. I like the Duo-Sonic style bridge, too. This is cool, much more awesome than the Jagmaster, and I might have to grab that hot fiesta red one when it comes out?

But the thing that gets me? There are now how many offset guitars from Fender now?

I can count a baker's dozen non-artist models:

Squier Duo-Sonic
Squier Jagmaster
Squier Jaguar
Squier Jazzmaster
Fender Jazzmaster Blacktop
Fender Jaguar Blacktop
Fender Classic Player Jazzmaster
Fender Classic Player Jaguar Special
Fender Classic Player Jaguar HH
Fender Jaguar HH
Fender 65 Mustang
Fender 62 Jaguar
Fender 62 Jazzmaster

And somehow the student guitar known as the Mustang's the third most expensive of them all.

The other thing that annoys me is that only four of the above (Jaguar HH, 65 Mustang, 62 Jag & 62 Jazz) have the vintage radius. I hope Fender wises up and makes more affordable models with the vintage radius. It's part of the charm, am I right?

Why? Agathis is good. Basswood's the tonewood that sucks. It sounds fine but god damn, it's soft.

Honestly, I think that agathis is every bit as good as alder as long as you have a solid finish. If they made a cheap Mustang with agathis and the proper bridge, I'd be so thrilled.

Telemaster, 'nuff said.
Was planning to build one over the summer but now going to wait to see what the neck and body are like on the squire before I start

With the chrome of the bridge the strat jack doesn't look _too_ bad. Maybe a tele powerbridge and have 2 outputs (mags & piezo)

i dont know why theyve gone with the strat input jack, it just looks wrong. apart from that i really rather like them though, especially the sunburst maple neck jazzy

I would totally do that with the Fiesta Red Jag. I don't know what the resulting name would be Teleguar? Jagcaster?

I've heard good things about the Squier Vintage Modified Thinline Teles retaining that Tele spank on a 24.75" scale. It may work on a 24" scale too.

Thanks.
